This is Sarkodie, Michael Owusu Addo in real life. 3 times BET International act nominee and one time winner, 2 times VGMA Artiste of the year, 19th most influential Ghanaian as ranked by e-TV, ranked 6th of the hottest African MCs in 2014 by MTV. Also named by the Guardian as one of the top hip hop acts on the African Continent.
Okay enough of that, lets talk about his following on Social media; 703,527 likes on his Facebook page, over 617,000 followers on twitter and 337,000 followers on Instagram. It gives you a clue about how strong his fan-base is in and outside the continent. You and i know when it comes international recognition, you can't take it out, he just hosted a very successful History in the making concert at the popular Apollo Theater.
On the 12th September, the rap icon releases the much talked about #Maryalbum and looking at his fan-base, he should just sleep and i bet u people will chase the much anticipated album when its released. But for the love and commitment to his career despite all the honors, awards, recognition together with a massive fan base, the rap legend has taken the responsibility of going on a radio tour in and around the capital to promote the album ahead of its release, spread the good news and remind his ever committed followers and the continent at large that, we are few days away from the official release. At live he was dared to put on a wig and do some make up by Jessica which he willingly did on live radio. That shows how 'foolish' successful people can be for what they love.
I find this gesture very humbling looking at how far such a talent has come and all that he has been able to achieve. And i pray that our young upcoming generation look at how much hard work and dedication the rap legend is putting into his career and learn from it. Instead of sit in their rooms and send their songs via whatsapp and email to DJ's and presenters together with some 'payo' and expect them to make any positive impact. You don't have to sell just our music, sell your personality as well because it is the only way you can benefit from your talent and hard work.
Let me end this by saying; no matter where you get to in life, there is always more to be achieved and that is why Sarkodie is undoubtedly the GREATEST GHANAIAN RAPPER OF ALL TIME!
